There’s some big news for Qantas Frequent Flyers as the Australian airline has been announced as the latest partner of Flying Blue, the loyalty program of KLM and Air France. This of course means that passengers can and spend QFF points and receive tier benefits on both major airlines.
The announcement builds upon a previous partnership, which was established in 2018 as a codeshare agreement between the three airlines. This allowed customers of each airline to connect on flights between Australia and Europe via Singapore and Hong Kong. Customers also benefited from reciprocal lounge access and Qantas Points on Qantas coded flights. Now, the agreement includes all flights operated by each of the airlines.
As part of the now expanded new partnership between the airline groups, Qantas Frequent Flyers will be able to fly to over 60 new destinations across Europe and Africa including Biarritz, France; Dresden, Germany; Calvi, Corsica, France; and Bristol, United Kingdom.
“Qantas Frequent Flyer is committed to building strong and strategic partnerships with flagship airlines to improve travel options and benefits for our members”, said Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth in a press release this morning. “Members will now have access to hundreds of thousands more reward seats in popular destinations including Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Barcelona and Athens, as well as new destinations across France, Italy and Northern Europe”.
Of course this means that points earning/spending also flows the other way. Flying Blue members are able to earn/spend their points across the Qantas network, making it easier and more accessible for frequent flyers to travel to Australia and access various perks.
Do note that this partnership does not flow through to code-share flights on airlines other than the three involved. Qantas points won’t, for example, be earned on Air France and KLM codeshare flights operated by an airline other than Air France, KLM or Qantas.
To earn Qantas Points with Air France or KLM, members simply need to enter their Qantas Frequent Flyer number when booking their next flight. Members can redeem available reward seats when they log in and select to “use points” when searching for flights on the Qantas website.
