Marriott International’s hipster Moxy Hotels opens in Washington, D.C

Marriott International have taken a big step with their trendy millennial brand Moxy, opening up a brand new hotel in Washington, D.C with aims to boldly reinvent the typical lifestyle hotel experience in the nation’s capital. Built within a historic building which dates back to 1870, Moxy D.C represents a modernisation of the city’s hospitality landscape, transforming the former home of a Civil War Union General with Moxy’s now well established hipster-friendly language, that expresses itself with everything from a functional mechanical toy horse to a yet-to-open glass-enclosed rooftop bar – the city’s first.

The interior has been treated with an industrial chic aesthetic, worked by Dash Design to touch every bit of the hotel, from it’s 200 guest rooms spread across 14 floors, to the common areas which include the homely, living room esque lobby, a library zone, and a “NOW” public space featuring table top games and various other twists, like that aforementioned mechanical toy horse. Like other Moxy’s around the world, including the one in Tokyo (which we reviewed HERE), the design sits very comfortably at the point where style and function meet.

Between the polished concrete floors, exposed concrete columns, and art-filled lobby, guests can find plenty of features speaking to the tech-forward traveller. Ample plug-ins in common areas, lightning fast free Wi-Fi, and even a “Moxy Digital Guestbook” for streaming videos and pictures via Instagram are included through the hotel, alongside amenities like smart and flexible bedrooms, mobile check-in/out, motion sensor lighting and keyless entry.

Three distinct drink and dining options should make this as much a local hangout as a base for the more adventurous D.C traveller. In addition to the aforementioned glass-enclosed rooftop bar – expected to open in Spring 2019 – by Baltimore-based Atlas Restaurant Group, there’s Moxy’s signature 24/7 grab-and-go concept diner with quick bites, self-service and local craft beers, and a lobby bar serving up the brand’s signature naan breads with various toppings, and regularly welcoming local DJs and offering happy hours.

“We’re thrilled to open Moxy in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C as a fun, spirited hotel with a bold approach to hospitality”, said Moxy D.C captain Mark Namdar. “Our doors are open to the young and the young at heart, and to those who seek adventures – from our programming to our music to art to cocktails and everything in between, Moxy does things differently. We look forward to welcoming both the travel and local community to show them all that Moxy, D.C has to offer”.
