Novelty things are happening around Sydney all the time, as restaurants – the creative ones at least – strive to compete in a fickle scene. Take, the recently launched Parlour Cucina for example. When they first opened, the team behind it made the wise choice to let nonnas eat for free – it’s obviously an Italian restaurant. Now they’ve went and launched their own hotline.
Well, not really. The Famiglia Hotline is just you calling anyone you want, but from a sexy brass old school 1920’s rotary phone. Even though we’re all totally woke and hate boomers now, it’s actually really cool having this relic pop-up for the month of December. The phone is available for any guest of QT Sydney or Parlour Cucina to use, armed with unlimited minutes and accompanied by a “how to dial” card.
The rotary dial and classic metal bell takes inspiration from the 1920s in a nod to the heritage of Parlour Cucina, which is located on the ground floor between The State Theatre and the Gowings building, both of which opened in the late 20s.
You’ll probably need a drink while you figure out how to actually work this phone, so for the entire month of December the Italian café is also upgrading bottles of Masion Mumm Pettit Cordon, to the fancier G.H. Mumm Grand Cordon, which can then be upgraded even further to a magnum during 5pm to 7pm on weeknights.
