Epson announces 4K PRO-UHD projector range that is cheaper than its 4K native counterparts

Epson has launched perhaps its most noteworthy release for the home theatre experience with its new 4K PRO-UHD projector series. “4K PRO-UHD” is the umbrella term Epson has coined to group the newly-launched EH-TW8400, EH-TW9400 and EH-TW9400W projectors which all feature three key technologies.

Whilst not native 4K, the three new projectors utilise hardware processors (one each for HDR, image processing and resolution enhancement) which means no sharing of resources or processing power. Epson claim this attention to detail for each individual component – brightness, colour and detail, will result in a “more impressive image than native 4K projectors”; plus, they’re more affordable than 4K native projectors.

The company boasts “brilliant brightness” thanks to HDR10 (High Dynamic Range 10) and 100% balanced colour brightness. The higher quality, brighter HDR image will also mean the projector will work outside of the home theatre environment. The core 3LCD panel technology (that is present in all Epson projectors) is said to ensure crisp colour since each primary colour has its own, dedicated LCD panel and striking detail will happen due to the 12-bit digital signal processing and aspheric glass lens system that work together to faithfully reproduce the source material.

To break down the major differences: the EH-TW8400 has a 1920x1080x2 resolution, improved pixel-shifting precision for 4K enhancement and 1:1,000,000:1 contrast ratio whilst the EH-TW9400 and EH-TW9400W (the “W” stands for wireless as it has no need for HDMI cables) has the same resolution but with 4K/60p HDR with 18 Gps support and a high contrast ratio of 1,200,000:1. All three models can display up to a 100″ screen with a 6.3 metre projection distance.

The EH-TW8400 has a RRP of AUD$4,099.00, with the EH-TW9400 priced at AUD$4,799.00 and its wireless twin at AUD$4,999.00. For complete information on the new range you can head to the Epson website HERE.
