Track of the Day: Seaside “Sycamore” (2019)

Byron Bay dream-pop quartet Seaside dropped their new single, “Sycamore”, at the end of last month. The single, which is inspired by lead singer Darcy Dexter’s personal experiences with social anxiety and self doubt, is a beautifully jangly slice of Australian indie rock. If you’ve not already had a listen, now is the time.

“Sycamore”, the band’s second release of the 2019, was recorded at Rocking Horse Studios in Byron, with Paul Pilseniks (Powderfinger/Dope Lemon), with Dylan Nash (Dean Lewis/BROODS) on co-production and mixing duties. To accompany the single, the band have teamed up with Robert Sherwood to record the quirky music video you can find below. The track is something of an anthem for perseverance in the face of social anxiety, as the band explains: “Life can put you in positions that make us uncomfortable, but the ever existing reminder of the Sycamore is that if we give ourselves a little self-love, we can make it through anything.”

Formed in 2016, Seaside is: Darcy Dexter (Vocals), Chris Mellross (Drums), Tom Ketelaars (Bass) and Froggy [Josh O’Neill Hammer] (Guitar). A debut album is currently slated for release in early 2020. The band are currently winding up a tour in support of Good Doogs (dates below), and will be officially launching “Sycamore” with a special show at the Northern in Byron Bay on Saturday June 21st.

“Sycamore” is available now. You can keep up to date with Seaside via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
