Track of the Day: Waxhead “Disco Etiquette” (2019)

Byron Bay surf/psychedelic quartet Waxhead are back with “Disco Etiquette”, a track fans might recognise from their debut Self Titled. Consisting of Finny on lead guitar, Shrecky on drums, AL Dogg on Bass, and Froggy on Vocals and Guitar, this is one hard-working foursome, with two EPs, several singles, and a slew of Australian and international tours under their belt.

Not content with sharing the stage with the likes of Gang of Youths, Dune Rats, and The Delta Riggs, Waxhead’s music has also made its way onto television. It’s a case of lucky number 7, with track “Brussels” featuring in season 7 of The Vampire Diaries, and “Opinions” showing up in season 7 of Shameless.

“Disco Etiquette” is described as a “grimy post-punk track”, with a sound that feels like it comes right out of the 90s Manchester scene, though with plenty of Byron Bay surf added for good measure. It’s a song about alienation and the struggle to fit in, focusing on a boy who feels like he’s from another planet and a girl who wants to be a disco queen.

Waxhead have a 10 track psych/pop album in the works so you’re going to want to keep an eye on these surfers – be sure to follow them on Facebook updates!
