Gold Coast set to showcase their musical best at special BIGSOUND showcase

There’s been a cultural revolution happening on the Gold Coast over the past five years. An increase in funding for arts and culture, the development of a Music Action Plan, exploration of regulatory reform for music venues and associated zoning and the establishment of a new generation of multi-purpose music venues has led to more touring acts coming through the city, more people coming out to see them and more original bands emerging from the area.

More festivals are putting down roots and recording studios and industry services are popping up everywhere. With more live performance opportunities than ever, the establishment of the Gold Coast Music Awards and its own cultural street press, Gold Coast is giving the rest of the country a run for its money in terms of growing a musical powerhouse to be reckoned with.

And now, for the fourth year in a row, the city will host its own showcase at BIGSOUND. A partnership between Gold Coast Music Awards organisers and the City Council, the Gold Coast showcase will highlight the diversity of talent currently emerging from the “glitter strip”. Black Rabbit George, Electrik Lemonade and Phoebe Sinclair (pictured) will showcase at this year’s lunchtime event.

Elsewhere, Gold Coast’s multi-award winners Hollow Coves (fresh from selling out shows internationally) will also showcase during BIGSOUND Live, as will one of our favourite artists PACES, San Mei who are playing the AU review’s party on Friday night at Foundry, and Eliza and the Delusionals, who have been touring non-stop since they impressed at last year’s Gold Coast showcase.
