BlizzCon 2018: Warcraft III Reforged is real, coming 2019

I told you. I bloody told you Warcraft III was coming back.

During their keynote address at BlizzCon 2018, Blizzard Entertainment’s classic games team took to the stage to talk about what they’d been working on since completing last year’s StarCraft Remastered. Warcraft III Reforged revives the classic RTS series that gave birth to an MMO juggernaut with upgraded models and textures, 4K resolution and more.

The suspicion that Blizzard were ready to return to series’ RTS roots has been percolating for a while — the Warcraft III servers seeing small tweaks and updates as the team moved around behind the scenes, the implementation of RTS-lite Warfronts mode in the new World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth expansion — so it’s nice to see something confirmed at last.

We’re interested to see if certain legacy systems, like the game’s now rather rough unit pathfinding, are updated as part of the remaster. Even if they aren’t, it’ll still be nice to have Warcraft III back after all these years. I was in high school when it came out. High school.

Warcraft III Reforged is coming to Windows PC and Mac OS X in 2019. You can preorder it here.
