New BioShock in development at new 2K studio

Fresh from resurrecting their popular Borderlands property this year, 2K Games has announced the return of another fan favourite — BioShock.

2K believes newly created 2K studio, Cloud Chamber, are the team to make it.

Cloud Chamber will be based at 2K’s headquarters in San Francisco, California and Montreal, Quebec. The move to Quebec marks the first time 2K have ever opened an office in Canada.

Cloud Chamber’s Global Studio Head is Kelley Gilmore, the first woman in 2K’s history to both launch and lead a new studio. A 22-year industry veteran, Gilmore is a 2K lifer with over 40 titles to her name. She has previously worked at Firaxis on franchises like Sid Meier’s Civilization and XCOM in a variety of roles.

As for BioShock, don’t expect to see much more about it in the near future. While development on the project is officially underway, 2K is clear that the game is still several years away.

The last title in the series, BioShock Infinite, released in 2013. Developed by Irrational Games, it brought the story to an astounding, interpretive finale. Irrational suffered substantial layoffs in 2017 and was rebranded Ghost Story Games. There is no word on whether any former Irrational staff will have a hand in the making of any new BioShock titles.
