The 2020 Midsumma Festival program is revealed

Australia’s premier queer arts experience Midsumma Festival have tonight launched their 2020 program and is set to be bigger than ever, with the festival taking over ninety eight venues across Melbourne’s CBD and outer suburbs.

Running from January 19th to February 9th 2020, the festival will showcase a spectacular array of performances, exhibitions, talks and social events, showcasing the work of leading international, national and local artists.

The major project for the 2020 iteration of the festival will be Queer Unsettled, a provocative program of events that promises to delve into themes of colonisation through live music, multidisciplinary installations, and new work exhibitions.

The line-up includes Drag Race darlings from Thailand in Nocturnal x Midsumma: Lunar New Year Disco, a celebration of Chinese New Year under the shiny disco ball at Melbourne Museum. BLOW and FAMILI will feature stories from Pacific Womxn of colour and Indigenous femmes told through movement and music. Whilst The Sky After Rain will tell the true stories of queer Iranian diasporas.

Audience favourites, including the acclaimed Midsumma and Australia Post Art Award exhibition, will return. And, of course, it wouldn’t be Midsumma, without the Midsumma Carnival. The eleven hour event will take over Alexandra Gardens and kick off the festival proper on January 20th. There will also be the Midsumma Pride March on February 2nd, with 2020 marking the 25th Anniversary of the march.

Midsumma Festival runs from January 19th to February 9th across Melbourne’s CBD and outer suburbs. For more information and a full run down of what’s on offer head HERE
