Pennywise is back in the terrifying trailer for “It: Chapter Two”

Surprise blockbuster hit It slashed up the box office in 2017, making the Stephen King adaptation the most successful R-rated horror film of all time. Now, it’s finally time for the sequel, simply dubbed “Chapter Two” which heads back to Derry where the original characters – collectively, the Losers Club – are all grown up.

Warners Bros. have finally released our first look at the sequel, which features an all-star cast including James McAvoy as Bill, Jessica Chastain as Beverley, Bill Hader as Richie, and a returning Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

It: Chapter Two was directed by Andrés Muschietti, who helmed the 2017 remake, with a screenplay by Gary Dauberman based on the second half of King’s seminal 1986 novel.

Taking place 27 years after the events of the original film, it features the grown up Loser Club reuniting in Derry, Maine only to find that Pennywise has also returned. From the looks of things, we’ll also be learning more about the evil clown’s origins (and family).

The trailer kicks off with a big focus on Chastain as a grown up Beverly, revisiting the unhappy childhood home which saw her emerge as a fighter despite her abusive father. An extremely creepy elderly lady is now the tenant, and slowly but surely reveals herself to hold a sinister secret.

The rest of it? Mainly a dizzying montage that cuts between the new cast and their younger counterparts, only teasing us with blink-and-you’ll-miss-it snippets of the upcoming film before Pennywise himself pops up at the end. Watch it below.

It: Chapter Two will release in Australia on 5th September 2019.
