Hotel Review: Melbourne’s Mantra on Jolimont is a Jolly Good Time

The Mantra on Jolimont is a true gem nestled on the outskirts of Melbourne City, and a prime location for those looking to stay a comfortable and affordable distance away from the bright lights of the CBD. The hotel is a short tram ride from Flinders St Station, or a 15-minute walk for the intrepid traveller.

While the tram ride is welcome relief for tired legs, the walk will take you through one of Melbourne City’s prettiest and most calming locations running along the Yarra River. Here, you’ll be greeted by this odd fellow, who resides in the gorgeous park locale.

On weekends, rowers can often be seen crossing the Yarra, and the path to the city is always a hive of activity. The Mantra on Jolimont is somewhat secluded from the buzz, however, and is a welcome escape from the constant rush of city traffic.

The hotel is just minutes away from the MCG, as well as the Rod Laver and Hisense arenas, but not once during my stay was I disturbed by their roaring crowds – instead I was rocked to sleep by the strangely comforting sounds of railway trains passing in the night.

The Mantra on Jolimont boasts a solid array of facilities, including a simple but effective gym, a well-stocked kitchen that hosts seven-day breakfast, and an outdoor heated pool with a spa that proved me with incredibly welcome relief after days of wandering the city.

The serviced apartment I stayed in was on the top floor of the hotel, and looked out across the entire city – I arrived late in the day and was pleasantly surprised to be able to watch the city descend into silhouette as the sun slowly disappeared beneath the horizon. Watching from my balcony, it was gorgeous sight.

With a practical kitchen, small dining area and a lounge accompanying the cordoned-off bedroom, the hotel apartment was extremely functional. Characterised by its minimalist, yet modern approach, the apartment was sleek, chic and charming. It also boasted a bathroom and shower with a full fleet of amenities, including a much-needed hairdryer (essential for a woman on the go). The most welcome feature was the large, king-size bed that felt like feathers to my tired feet.

After long and weary days of travelling through the streets of Melbourne, there was no better relief than coming back to the Jolimont. I was consistently greeted with top tier service, extremely helpful staff and a welcoming place to rest my feet.

Generously roomy and excellently affordable, it’s hard to look past the Mantra on Jolimont whether you’re on a budget, or just want to be close to the action. As far as my stay, I had a wonderful time with impeccable service and a view that was to die for. Staying at the Mantra on Jolimont was an excellent choice in my adventure.
