Fried chicken coated with BBQ Shapes is a thing in Australia now

BBQ Shapes (Original Recipe) flavoured Fried Chicken exists. If that surprises you then you obviously haven’t been keeping in touch with Australia’s over the top food trends lately. The newest slightly weird, absolutely delicious (probably) collaboration comes from Arnott’s Shapes, Deliveroo and three of the East Coast’s most beloved chicken joints.

The ever-iconic staple snack that is Original Barbecue Shapes have been crumbed onto fried chicken and will be offered as an exclusively Deliveroo menu item from Tuesday 18th September through to Sunday 7th October. Reportedly, it took weeks to find the right formula, with Deliveroo’s “food scientists” working with the chicken joints listed below to arrive at this: marinated tender chicken drumsticks rolled and coated in finely crushed BBQ Shapes, said to result in a crispy fried outer layer.

This one-of-a-kind deal will be offered to customers based in NSW, VIC and QLD from $8-$15 during those aforementioned dates.

“We are very excited to be offering our loyal Arnott’s Shapes lovers the opportunity to try one of their favourite biscuits in a new and different way”, said Arnott’s Marketing Director Michelle Foley. “In partnership with some iconic restaurants, we are sure Aussies will love the Shapes crumbed Fried Chicken, and what better way than to serve it right up to their door”.

Those in Sydney can get BBQ Shapes Chicken Tenders from Surry Hills’ favourite Juicy Lucy (5 for $10 or 8 for $15), while Melbourne locals have access to Chicken Rib Coated in BBQ Shapes from Phat Chicks (3 for $9). Brisbane’s Seoul Bistro will be taking care of their own with BBQ Chicken Tenders served with thin-cut fries and Thai sweet chili dip (5 for $9.90).

Obviously you’re going to have to go through Deliveroo for this, so get those grubby fingers ready, these will surely be selling out left, right and centre.
