Australians now have easier access to Porto with Emirates’ new service

Just in time for the European summer, Emirates have launched their highly anticipated four time weekly service to the Portuguese city of Porto, opening Australians up to an increasingly popular destination.

This marks the airline’s second destination in Portugal, operating non-stop to and from their Dubai hub. Australians are able to benefit greatly from the easy access to Porto via Dubai with 84 weekly combined flights from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Sydney, including daily A30 flights.

Known for its sun kissed beaches, memorable river cruises, delectable food scene and renowned fortified wine (Port Wine is named for the city), Porto has become one of Europe’s ultimate bucketlist destinations and is frequently found on the itineraries of those who have already “done” all the typical European hotspots.

Aussies are able to immerse themselves in Porto’s rich culture thanks to the new service, which saw its inaugural flight arrive earlier this week on Tuesday. The Emirates Boeing 777-200LR, in a two class cabin configuration with the airline’s newest interiors, as well as Business (31 lie flats in 2-2-2) and Economy seats (264 in total), was welcomed by Porto Airport with a water cannon salute.

“Travellers in northern Portugal will now have a convenient and direct flight option to our Dubai hub, from where they can seamlessly access Emirates’ global network, particularly to destinations in Africa, Asia, Australia and the Middle East”, said Vice President, Commercial Operations, Europe, Russian Federation and Latin America. “This new service also opens up a new and exciting destination for travellers from across our network”.

The new service will run on Tuesday, Thursdays, Saturday and Sundays, departing from Dubai as EK197 at 9:15am, arriving in Porto at 2:30pm same day. The return flight, EK198, will depart Porto at 5:35pm and arrive in Dubai at 4:15am the next morning.

Emirates also operates two flights a day between Dubai and Lisbon with Boeing 777-300ERs, offering more than 700 seats a day.
