Track of the Day: Vampire Weekend Feat. Steve Lacey “Sunflower” (2019)

Steve Lacey was a busy man last year. The very much in-demand multi instrumentalist, famed as for his work with The Internet sprinkled his imaginative post-funk vibes all other works from the likes of Kali Uchis and Ravyn Lenae. It seem he isn’t done yet; invited on board by none other than Vampire Weekend who pick Lacey up for the vibrant, funk-a-delic strut that is “Sunflower”.

Sister song to “Flower Moon”, which Vampire Weekend were previewing on tour last year, it’s a colourful left-field concoction that serves as the latest offering from forthcoming double album Father of the Bride – due later this year. “Sunflower” follows “2021” and “Harmony Hall”, while coinciding with the release of “Big Blue”.

Surprisingly, Jonah Hill directed the music video for “Sunflower”, which is rumoured to be dropping any day now, and if it’s half as good as the track’s breezy, carefree soundscape and heady scat harmonies, then we’re in for a very good (probably weird) time.

‘Sunflower” is available now.
