Track of the Day: Trupa Trupa “Dream About” (2019)

Polish psych-pop quartet Trupa Trupa are the newest signees to legendary Seattle label, Sub Pop. With the promise of new music later in the year, the band has released an official video for their track “Dream About” to hold fans over in the meantime.

Boosted by a gloomy bassline that would heighten the tension in a dystopic scene, Grzegorz Kwiatkowski’s soft vocals hover over the gloominess and become a hypnotic chant before a guitar begins copying bassline. Trupa Trupa are the second Polish band to be signed by Sub Pop this year, after Perfect Son released their debut album, Cast, earlier this month.

The video was shot on Super 8, a format that director Benjamin Finger says was perfect to pair with the bands sound. “[Super 8] is a format I am strongly connected to, and I think it fits the music of Trupa Trupa. There is something poetic about the music, and I think it matches the images in a good way,” Finger says. “The video is also about seeing the world through the eyes of the child. The video features shot on location in Vancouver, Paris and Buenos Aires.”

Whilst an Australian visit has yet to be announced, the band will be playing dates at SXSW this March before returning back to Europe for shows in Poland and Slovakia. Additional shows will be announced soon.
