Track of the Day: Tess Guthrie “WUTO” (2019)

An alumnus of the Push Songs program, Melbourne based Tess Guthrie’s first single “WUTO” (Were You the One?) is a killer blend of honest lyrics, raw emotion, and stunning vocals.

Citing Jeff Buckley, Eva Cassidy, and recent SXSW Grulke Prize winner Angie MacMahon as influences, Tess built her sound in beachside venues along the Surf Coast, before putting music on the backburner as she headed to university.

First played on Triple R back in October 2018, the folksy “WUTO” was picked up by Brunswick based songwriting program Push Sounds, and is one of several tracks recorded on the Gold Coast for Tess’ upcoming EP. The track has also found its way onto Triple J Unearthed, where it has received glowing reviews.

With a music video shoot planned in her hometown of Torquay, tour dates to be announced, and a single launch show set for Melbourne later this year, Tess is set for a busy 2019.
