Track of the Day: Snoh Aalegra feat. Luke James “Out Of Your Way (Remix)” (2018)

Swedish singer Snoh Aalegra will be heading out on tour next month across the United States, in support of her late-2017 debut record FEELS. In anticipation she’s dropped a new single, or rather a reimaging of the album track: “Out Of Your Way”. On this new version, Aalegra has brought in New Orleans’ crooner Luke James on vocals, creating a tender and sultry duet.

For those of you not already familiar with Aalegra, we’re here to catch you up. Born in Sweden, to Persian parents, the singer-songwriter was initially signed to Sony at just 14, though she’s now signed to Def Jam imprint ARTium. She’s been sampled by Drake, and collaborated with the likes of John Mayer, Common, RZA and Killer Mike. She also spent time with Prince, who was an early admirer of her work. In fact, she credits him for pushing her to be an individual and independent artist.

“Out Of Your Way” is a real beauty of a track. It’s smoky and sultry, with each of the different instrumental elements coming together perfectly. Aalegra and James really seem to be the perfect vocal pairing too. Their soulful vocals work well together, whilst the track also gives both room to highlight their individual range and prowess.

If Aalegra was already on your radar, “Out Of Your Way” is a welcome reminder of what she can bring to the table. If you’re new to her work, it’s a great introduction to the smoky voiced Swedish singer-songwriter. Likewise, it’s a brilliant taster of what Luke James has to offer too. I for one am off to find some more of his work to stream.

“Out of Your Way” is available now through Artium Recordings. You can follow Aalegra on Facebook and Instagram. If you’re in the US, her tour kicks off September 15th in Miami, Florida. For more info click HERE
