Track of the Day: Sam Fender “Hypersonic Missiles” (2019)

After winning the BRITs Critics’ Choice award in 2018, Sam Fender has shared his first new music of 2019. “Hypersonic Missiles” is an impassioned observation of political unrest and mismanagement that is wrapped in perfect-pop melodies that rise to a chorus you can easily imagine yourself belting out at a live gig.

Fender says, “In many ways, Hypersonic Missiles is an unorthodox love song. It’s main focus is on the world around the narrator, who is a complete tin foil hatter. They are convinced the world is on its last legs; they know that it is rife with injustice but feel completely helpless and lacking the necessary intelligence to change it while remaining hopelessly addicted to the fruits of consumerism.”

Whilst a name and release date have not been revealed yet, a new album will be out some time this year through Dew Process in Australia and Polydor Records in the UK. Following a week of engagements at SXSW, Fender will briefly play a few dates in the US before returning to Europe for an extensive tour. A visit to Australia has yet to be announced.
