Track of the Day: Montgomery Church “I’m Gonna Love Her All The Time” (2018)

Earlier this month, NSW Alt. Country and Folk duo Montgomery Church were playing the iconic Bluebird Cafe in Nashville as part of the Americanafest. Now, they’re back in Australia and just dropped “I’m Gonna Love Her All The Time”, the second single from their debut record In the Shadow of the Mountain, which was released back in May.

Montgomery Church, formed in 2016, is made up of Cielle Montgomery and James Church. Musically they’re right in that Folk, Americana, Country and Bluegrass sweet spot, reminiscent of Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings and The Civil Wars. Their debut was recorded, mostly live, in an old barn in country NSW, with producer Syd Green at the helm. According to Cielle, the goal of the record was to create “something ‘honest’ that sounded just like us. We want the listener to feel like they’re at a live show or sitting in our lounge room at home when they hear the album”.  It’s a goal they’ve well and truly achieved, and is very true of this new single too.

“I’m Gonna Love Her All The Time”,  is the final song the duo wrote for the record, and features a beautiful, yet subtle, banjo solo from Cielle. The track is a no frills mid-tempo affair; warm, plaintive and tender, with some delightful harmonies. It’s a real understated gem of a track.

Montgomery Church are playing select dates across October and November, for more information visit HERE. Their debut record In The Shadow of the Mountain is available now. Be sure to keep up to date with the duo via their Facebook and Instagram.
