Track of the Day: LÛMIS “Drift” (2018)

Last Friday saw Melbourne trio LÛMIS release their debut single “Drift”, and features vocals from Imogen Brough.

The Melbourne based trio initially began collaborating on music back in 2014, and are heavily influenced by 1980’s synthesisers and cinematic film scores. Those influences certainly shine through on “Drift”, with those retro synths front and centre from the outset. The single’s opening moments, for example, were really giving me Tron vibes and certainly wouldn’t sound out of place in a 80’s science-fiction movie. It’s upbeat stuff, with a great groove, and features an emphatic and impressive vocal performance from The Voice alumni Brough, which can’t help but bring to mind the likes of CHVRCHES.

Here’s what keyboardist and percussionist Ben had to say about the collaboration:

“”Drift” was written from a place of change and wanting to move forward, and it was challenging finding the right singer who could encompass the vocal performance we had written.”

Produced by Steeve Body (De La Soul, Yothu Yindi) and mastered by Ben Feggans (RUFUS, Flume), “Drift” is a high quality debut, and is a tantalising taste of the group’s forthcoming EP which is slated for release in 2019.
