Track of the Day: Hein Cooper “Over Again” (2018)

We’ve long been fans of Hein Cooper here on the AU, and when he released his single “Hear My Voice” back in April, it had been a decent time between drinks for the Sydney Indie Pop artist.

Turns out the singer/songwriter had been spending quite a bit of time writing in “British coastal towns and cinematic French chalets” (it’s a tough life), to produce the follow up to the critically acclaimed, gorgeous 2016 album The Art of Escape. And now we have our second taste of that material, in his single “Over Again” – a catchy, melodic gem which is our track of the day.

Of the release, Cooper says that the track represents how he sees modern pop music, “I think a pop song can be incredibly poetic and still clear, and also be an exciting mix of genres. That’s what I’ve aimed for throughout my new music.” It’s a song about disbelief, the denial you feel when something you thought was going to last forever ends; “I tend to get overly involved in things so I’m prone to these kinds of situations,” he says.
