Track of the Day: Eugénie “Little Bit In Love” (2019)

French-Australian singer-songwriter Eugénie has today dropped, “Little Bit in Love” her debut single and the lead single from her forthcoming EP Arrhythmia, which is due to be released later in the year.

Raised on the bustling streets of downtown Manhattan, and having studied Comparative Literature at NYU, Eugénie has recently relocated to Melbourne to make music in a slightly less manic city.

“Little Bit in Love” and Arrythmia are the product of a close collaboration with long time friend and jazz guitarist Lee Meadvin. With the tracks making up the EP written and created between a small bedroom in Brooklyn and a long distance relationship in Australia. The track, itself, errs towards the alternative pop ballad side of the musical spectrum, and according to Eugénie is a song about our common mortality and falling in love with strangers.

It’s a delightful track, which is elevated further by a beautiful vocal performance and some interesting and occasionally slightly left field instrumentation. I enjoyed the hints towards the backing vocal harmonies. Rather than being distracting, I felt the almost playful instrumentation lifted the track, and gave it that little bit of extra edge or point of difference. All in all it’s an emotive, ethereal, and even a little empowering. Certainly, it’s left me wanting to hear more.

“Little Bit In Love” is available from today. You can keep up to date with Eugénie via her Instagram page.
