SXSW Wrap-Up: The AU Review and Hello Asia! team up for Official Showcase with San Mei, I Know Leopard, Geowulf and more

On Thursday night in Austin, Texas at Australia House, the very website you’re currently reading, alongside our sister publication Hello Asia! teamed up for our first ever official showcase at SXSW. Three acts from Australia were joined by two from Japan and one from Korea – the first acts from those regions to ever play the Australia House stage. Since we can’t provide you an unbiased review of the event, short of saying it was the best of the entire festival (obviously), here’s a photographic look at what happened at the showcase.

Founding Editor Larry Heath welcoming everyone to the event
San Mei rocked it to kick off the night.
Korean band Drinking Boys & Girls Choir
They represented the thriving yet oft forgotten Punk scene in Seoul
Aussie act Geowulf were a hit not just of our event but of the entire SXSW Festival
Geowulf are based in the UK, which is why many in Australia may not be familiar with them.
Japanese outfit STEREOGIRL rocked the venue.
One of Australia’s best bands, I Know Leopard, gave attendees a taste of their upcoming debut record.
…and they did not disappoint.
And finally there was the Japanese rock group DYGL.
Pronounced “Day Glo” the band had heavy influence from the history of American rock music and were a remarkably impressive act; a great way to close out the night.
