SXSW Interview: Jarryd James talks about “Slow Motion”; “I spend a lot of time by myself in weird places”

Earlier this month, Larry Heath had the chance to sit down with Aussie singer/songwriter Jarryd James ahead of his performance at Australia House as part of The Aussie BBQ during SXSW.

During our chat, Jarryd talked about the craziness of the event, playing the Neon Gold Showcase, about how wonderful Lizzy Plapinger from MS MR is. We talk about his latest single “Slow Motion”, which is about being away from home saying “(being away from home) is a hazard of the job, and not one that I can ever complain about, but it does weigh on me a lot, and it affects my emotions and my moods, so I had to write something about it”.

He says he’s got a bunch of new music in store for us soon too, but couldn’t let us in on what the release plans were. We also talk about co-writing, “I’m a bit weird about writing lyrics for other people” and he confesses, “I spend a lot of time by myself in weird places”.
