Track of the Day: Ratso & Nick Cave “Our Lady of Light” (2019)

Now at the ripe old age of 70, Larry Sloman, better known around the industry as Ratso, is gearing to release his debut album. The New York author has been a key player for some of the biggest names in history over the past few decades, from working with both Anthony Kiedis and Peter Criss in turning their memoirs into celebrated autobiographies, to helping Howard Stern become a best-selling author. Needless to say, Sloman knows how to write, so it’s no surprise that his first offering off Stubborn Heart, due this April, is an elegantly penned piece. That’s furthered by the fact that Australian treasure Nick Cave comes along to make it a remarkable duet.

The slow-burning number, titled “Our Lady of Light”, is a melancholic sway of Cohen-esque rock, poetic as Ratso and Cave admire and fear an unnamed muse while they are backed by heady strings and drugged-up drums. If this is any indication of how Stubborn Heart will play out, especially with additional confirmed guests like Warren Ellis, Sharon Robinson, Yasmine Hamdan, and Imani Coppola, then consider this one of the most anticipated projects of 2019.
