Interview: Thandi Phoenix shares her NYE tips, favourite moments and music of 2018

It’s been an incredible year for Thandi Phoenix, who I last sat down with back in March at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Now she’s going to be ringing in the New Year in Sydney alongside The Presets and more, as part of the NYE in the Park lineup. We caught up with her to find out about her hot NYE tips, her favourite moments (and music) of 2018, and we get some hints as to what she’s up to in 2019…

What were you doing on your favourite ever NYE?

This is a funny one because it was also one of my worst due to over indulgence BUT watching The Roots front and centre as I welcomed in the new year surpasses any hangover

What three things make the perfect New Years Eve?

1. Great company
2. Boss tunes
3. Bubbles

What can fans expect from your set at NYE IN THE PARK?

As per – a whole lotta energy, good vibes, come through if you’re ready to dance and you’ll also be the first to hear my new single

Who else are you excited to check out while you’re there? Will you get to stay around until midnight?

100 % It’s a fire line up. I’ll be bouncing round between stages, so hopefully catch a bit of everyone

What’s been your highlight as an artist in 2018?

Doing first international show at SXSW and having such a good response for the release of “My Way”. It’s still exciting when someone sends me a vid or messages that the song or film clips come on wherever they are….

What are you most looking forward to in 2019?

I’ve got a super exciting collab coming out early in 2019 that I’ve been sitting on and a whole bunch of new music that I’ve worked on over the year which I’ll be releasing as an EP – so I can’t wait to share all of that, tour it, travel and make more music!

And hot tip on your favourite ALBUM and/or SONG in 2018?

Janelle Monae’s album + Emotion Picture (visuals) – “Dirty Computer”. If you haven’t already you must watch the visuals and listen to the whole album, it’s brilliant.
