Exclusive Single Premiere: TJ Patrick “Falling” (2019)

Born and raised in Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges, TJ Patrick blends personal experiences with bluesy riffs and folk-like sounds, and we’re super stoked to bring you an exclusive stream (plus music video!) of the Melbourne singer-songwriter’s latest single “Falling” ahead of its offical release on February 22nd. Scroll down for the Soundcloud stream and the video!

Recorded with producer and musician Ben Edgar, who has worked with Angus and Julia Stone, Passenger, and Gotye in the past, Falling was envisioned as a musical “photograph”, a snapshot of a lost relationship. Talking about the song, TJ said:

“It was written after a relationship ended abruptly as a way of not forgeting the details of her life. I was scrapbooking all the memories and feelings I had of her and her home. As the song developed, much like a photograph, it didn’t turn out quite how I intended; it was darker and more melancholic as if the memories were reacting with my feelings of heartbreak and loss… I love the way we use the word ‘falling’. Falling asleep, falling ill, falling pregnant. They all imply a kind of letting go of control; giving over to something or someone.”

TJ has lingered in the background of Aussie music for a while now, lending his guitar skills to artists such as Urthboy, PEZ, Drapht, and Hilltop Hoodz. All the while, he’s been honing his folk driven craft, inspired by artists such as Dolly Parton and Paul Simon. A tour of the US solidified his love of country and folk music, playing in some of America’s most iconic venues, including Nashville’s Bluebird Café.

The video was directed by Nick McKinlay (Julia Jacklin, John Butler Trio) in the Dandenong Ranges of Victoria. The video depicts a man’s descent into paranoia following a relationship breakup. He moves to the country in an attempt to escape his past life but ends up being stalked by what appears to be the ghost of his former girlfriend.

“Falling” will be officially released February 22nd. Patrick will be launching the single at Melbourne’s LongPlay on March 9th. For more information and tickets head HERE. You can keep up to date with Patrick via Facebook and Instagram.
