Aussie Abroad: Meet the acts to play Coachella, Bonnaroo, Primavera, Fuji Rock, Firefly and BottleRock in 2019

For all you jet-setting music fans out there, you’ll see plenty of Aussies hitting the stages of international festivals this year. From Coachella in California to Lollapalooza in Paris, you’ll be spotting Australian acts around the world. Here’s just a few of those destination festivals that you can expect to see some homegrown bands dominating this year.

Coachella

The famed event held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, located in the Inland Empire’s Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert in California, the Coachella Valley music and arts festival is one that many travellers have sitting at the top of their bucket list. This year, Coachella’s lineup features a number of Aussie artists.

Headlining the festival with Childish Gambino and Ariana Grande is Australian band Tame Impala, whose 2015 album Currents won an ARIA Music Award for Album of the Year. Joining the psych rockers is alternative dance group RÜFÜS DU SOL from Sydney, Aussie DJ Anna Lunoe, Australian indie electronic trio Mansionair and Aussie music producer FISHER.

Bonnaroo

Tennessee’s Bonnaroo music and arts festival, located at the Great Stage Park, is another event filled with Aussie talent. Performing at Bonnaroo is Australian group The Teskey Brothers, their distinctive sound a mix of soul and blues. Joining them: Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, artist Courtney Barnett and Aussie group Crooked Colours.

Primavera Sound

Primavera Sound, located at Parc del Fòrum in Barcelona, one of Spain’s biggest music festivals, returns with a full Aussie lineup this year. We see Australian favourites Tame Impala making yet another appearance, along with Perth rock band Pond, artist Courtney Barnett, Aussie musical group Amyl & The Sniffers, Australian DJ Fantastic Man & artist Tornado Wallace, and last but not least, artist and composer Lisa Gerrard.

Fuji Rock

Located at the Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, the Fuji Rock music festival is bound to attract crowds of people. This year, renowned Australian singer Sia is hitting the stage to perform, along with Australian rock band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and young Aussie artist Stella Donnelly.

Firefly

The Firefly music festival, located at Dover International Speedway, Dover, Delaware is seeing a few Aussies on their lineup this year. Australian band The Teskey Brothers are bringing their talent to yet another festival, along with Aussie indie electronic trio Mansionair and Ziggy Alberts, an Australian artist from the Sunshine Coast whose music will definitely get the crowds roaring.

BottleRock

A few Aussies are joining the BottleRock music festival lineup this year, including Triple J’s Hottest 100 winner Ocean Alley, whose song “Confidence” gained the top spot. Joining Australian band Ocean Alley at the event is Aussie band The Teskey Brothers, indie rock group Gang of Youths from Sydney, and artist Tash Sultana, whose latest album Flow State was released mid 2018. BottleRock is located at the Napa Valley Expo in Napa, California.

Lollapalooza Paris

Two Aussies are set to hit the stage at Lollapalooza music festival this year, located at Hippodrome de Longchamp in Paris. Australian music producer Alison Wonderland will be busting out some tunes, as will Tash Sultana.
